Nominate a Local Teacher of the Month

I always find October is one of the hardest months because we go the furthest time between breaks and the classes tend to get harder for students. To get through this hard time, I want to focus on the “good” that is going on in the classroom. If you know a great teacher, or your child has a rockin’ teacher that you think is incredible, the truth is this person goes to work everyday and seldom gets that recognition. As a teacher we get told on a daily basis that “this is boring”, “this sucks”, and questioned why a child isn’t doing as well as we think they need to be. As a culture we focus in on the negative, but hardly recognize the positive that is happening. With so much positive that is happening, here are a few sites where you can recognize a co-worker or great teacher so they can get the recognition they deserve.

Metroplex Baby and Kids: This lucky monthly teacher gets a field trip to the Dallas Zoo.

KLTY/Care Now– This monthly teacher of the month gets a plaque (oooh) and a presentation of prizes at their school (ahhh!)

Dallas Mavericks– Mark your calendars. This contest has passed, but should come back around February 2011. The Mavericks only pick 3 teachers (in the entire metro area),but they give $1000 to the teacher, and $1000 to the school.

For great improvements in students there is the MAVS Academic All Stars. This program provides a grab bag for STUDENTS who have made strides during a semester.

About schmeggo

Hi there and welcome to my little piece of web. I am a wife, a step mom, mom, and a teacher among other things. I am addicted to school supplies and getting things for as little as possible. During July and August I spend Sundays coming the papers and stalking my local Staples trying to find items at prices that I can get over 120 of them. During the school year, this is a personal blog of educational interest. I am by no means an expert on education and child rearing, but through trial and error, I hope we can help each other out. Whether you are buying for one or one-hundred, kindergarten to college, I hope that my little web space can help you find something trendy or cheap to make back to school on any day easier.
